Make an Emergency Heater Out Of a Metal Can and Toilet Paper

Heat is important for our survival. In fact, it really doesn’t matter if it is cold outside or not, if we don’t have the right heat, especially during the nighttime, we will have a difficult time of it.

That is why it is so important to make sure that you have the heat you need on a daily basis. We may even try to pack what we need into our go-bag but we are limited because of space. Fortunately, there is a way to get around it by making your own heater and you might be surprised with how easy it is to do.

Of course, in order to make this type of heater, you will need to have the basic ingredients on hand. This is something that will take a little forethought on your part, or you may need to improvise in some way or another. What do you need?

1. Metal can with lid

2. Roll of toilet paper

3. Rubbing alcohol

It really is that simple. Just gather those few items and then put them together in the way that I will tell you and you will have your own little heater that will burn for many hours.

When getting the cans together, be cautious that they didn’t contain anything that would be extremely flammable. Since you’re going to be introducing fire to the area, you don’t want to create an issue that could potentially be explosive.

Typically, you would use a large can that contained vegetables or fruit. You can also use an old paint can or something similar, provided it is clean on the inside.

Once you have a can available, it’s time to prepare the toilet paper. This is a very simple process because you are going to use an entire roll of toilet paper in a single can.

Hold the toilet paper in one hand and reach into the roll with the other hand. The cardboard on the inside will need to be peeled out. This is what will allow you to collapse the toilet paper roll effectively.

Squeeze the toilet paper roll together so that it goes down into the can. The point is, you want to have it as close as possible to filling the entire can. That will make it more effective as a heating utensil.

Finally, pour the rubbing alcohol into the can and soak the toilet paper. You want to have at least 70% rubbing alcohol and a higher percentage is perfectly acceptable. It is flammable, so after you soak the toilet paper and put flame to it, it will burn for a very long time.

If you need to put the fire out, simply blow onto it or put a lid on the can to remove oxygen. The flame will go out automatically.
