There are many items that we may need during a time of disaster. One of those items is gasoline. Although some people may consider gasoline to be a luxury, and is actually something that is a necessity in today’s world.
During a long-term survival event, such as during a war or perhaps some type of Holocaust, gasoline may become less and less necessary. During a smaller scale event, such as a natural disaster, it is going to be something you will love to have around.
The problem is, not everybody is equipped to store gasoline for the long term. Why in the disaster is coming, if you do have an opportunity to see it coming, and is not going to be the time to go out and get gasoline. By that point, the lines at the gas station are going to be horrible.
You can still store gasoline now in containers and keep it stored for the long term. The first thing that you will need, however, is the containers.
5 gallon plastic containers are the best option for storing gasoline for long-term storage. You can purchase these at a local hardware store, such as Home Depot. Don’t use containers that were not made for gasoline because the plastic may not hold up while gas is stored in it for a long time.
Next, fill the containers up with gasoline. This is gasoline that is going to be kept for the long term, not gasoline that you will be using every week for your automobile or other needs. It will be used in the time of a disaster to power a generator and to keep your car fueled up.
It is also necessary to have some sort of fuel stabilizer included in the gasoline. There are a number of these that can be purchased and added to the gasoline. It will help to keep the gas stable while you store it for up to six months or a little longer.
Make sure that you store the gasoline in a safe area that is away from excessive heat and any sparks. Perhaps it could be stored on a piece of wood or even on a pallet so it is not sitting on the concrete floor.
You may also need to use the gasoline if the six months is up. Set an alarm for yourself and every six months, fill your car with the gasoline you have in storage and go out to buy some more.
It may take a little work to keep the gas in storage but when you have a need for it during a disaster, it is going to be invaluable.
